A Historic Structure Report (HSR) compiles all available information about a historic structure, including research about the history, occupants, and physical features of an individual structure or complex of structures. This type of report is typically generated prior to the initiation of a major restoration effort, or when a new interpretive plan is being considered. An HSR also can facilitate the development of a furnishings plan for period-interpreted sites such as house museums or other historic sites. The scope of the HSR is dependant upon the needs of the client, and may include consultants’ reports to support its findings. Background research may incorporate genealogical work, dendrochronological sampling, archeological testing, transcriptions of historic documents, artifact analysis, structural analysis, and paint analysis, among others tasks.
