The National Historic Landmarks (NHL) program administered by the US Secretary of the Interior designates places of national significance. For a building or structure to be considered as a NHL, a nomination form must first be submitted. A landmark designation is valuable because it confers specific protections on the property. For not-for-profits, Landmark designation enables funding from sources such as the Getty Foundation, which requires applicants to have NHL status.
Hartgen prepares NHL nominations for individual structures or districts. Its staff is familiar with the review process associated with these applications and can assist clients with all stages of the process.
